T Sisters will be performing at the Grand Annex for the first time on September 21! The trio are really sisters: Erika and twins Rachel and Chloe Tietjen made their debut in 2012 with the EP Bring Us Back. Since then, they have released four albums, three EPs and ten singles.ย

But T Sisters are more than singers, songwriters and musicians โ€” they are also advocates for girlsโ€™ empowerment. In 2019, the U.S. Embassy invited them to Egypt and Morocco through the American Music Abroad (AMA) program, which sends US musicians worldwide for cultural exchange.

As ambassadors, T Sisters led singing workshops for over 300 high school girls to emphasize the power of musical expression and its ability to help them find their voice. They taught the girls their version of the acapella song โ€œI Have a Hammer,โ€ which, as Erika told news outlet Seven Days, picks up on Pete Seegerโ€™s classic protest song to reveal the ambivalence that comes with having โ€œcountless tools at our disposal to communicate [and] to engage in activism if we wanted to.โ€

In Cairo, the trio also performed with Egyptian folk artist Shereen Abdo in an all-female lineup at the Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival.

T Sisters continue to honor womenโ€™s voices through their music. In May, they announced their upcoming EP Sheroes. So far, theyโ€™ve pre-released the singles โ€œI Will Surviveโ€ and โ€œLike A Virgin,โ€ country-indie renditions of Gloria Gaynor and Madonnaโ€™s hit songs, respectively.
