For the fifth year in a row, Grand Vision Foundation has received a Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts (PSHA) grant. The funds will support next year’s Meet the Music education program at six Title I elementary schools, serving 1,400 students.

Since 2009, Grand Vision’s Meet the Music has been serving students at elementary schools throughout the City of LA with a robust in-school music education program. Meet the Music provides equitable access to music education for students at each grade level in participating schools, serving up to 2,500 K-5th graders each year. Grand Vision’s teaching artists – music teachers who are also professional musicians – visit classrooms weekly to teach foundational concepts in music, music notation and performance skills for end-of-year recitals.

While students learn lifelong skills in music making and music appreciation, the program also fosters confidence and empathy and demonstrates the value of collaboration and regular practice. These abilities extend beyond music, enriching academic subjects and contributing to overall success. Teachers report that the program keeps students engaged in school, and students report feeling more excited to go to school.

Grand Vision Volunteers at PSHA

The PSHA is dedicated to supporting music education. Each year, they present their annual fundraiser, a month-long designer decorative arts showcase staged at a private home to raise essential grant funds. This year, the showcase house was the historic Bauer Estate, a 15,000 square foot estate set on five acres of landscaped gardens. The property is so large that PSHA reached out to their grantees for volunteers to help as docents and guides. Grand Vision sent 13 volunteers covering a total of 19 shifts.

Grand Vision would like to thank Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts for helping provide another year of music education for our Meet the Music students. With their support, we can continue to bring the power of music education to students at some of the most underserved schools in the City of Los Angeles.
