Meet the Music Students and Grand Vision Staff Lupe Montiel

March is Arts Education Month! We’d like to share a fun Meet the Music success story. After San Pedro’s 7th Street School 4th graders had their Roots of Music Program (RoMP) recital, one of the students proudly showed off her handmade guitar to Lupe Montiel, Grand Vision’s Education Program Coordinator and RoMP Teaching Artist (pictured right). RoMP students are taught how to make their own chordophone instruments – instruments that create a sound when you pluck, strike, or draw a bow across their strings – using household supplies and core math concepts. This student (pictured left) went all out even bedazzling her guitar!

Meet the Music is funded in part by generous support from our funders: Los Angeles Unified School District, California Arts Council, Crail-Johnson Foundation, Los Angeles County Department of Arts & Culture, Dwight Stuart Youth Fund, Chorus America, City of LA Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn of the Fourth District, Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts, US Bank Foundation.
