SUMMARY:TEAM TAIKO Drum Classes Winter Parade Session
DESCRIPTION:Team Taiko is joining the San Pedro Holiday Parade. Learn how to taiko in a parade. We will practice how to wear the drum and march while playing. \nTaiko is a Japanese drumming style that\, over the last several decades\, has become a global phenomenon. Since 2013\, Grand Vision has partnered with leading taiko instructors to bring the art form to the South Bay. \nTaiko Artist ManMan Mui guides participants toward a repertoire of drumming techniques and patterns. Sessions include developing rhythmic sensibility\, body awareness\, breath and strength training as students make music together as a team. \nIf you would like to drum in the parade\, please be sure to select your shirt size when you register. \nIf you would just like to attend the class to learn these taiko techniques\, please select the Class Only option. \nTeam Taiko is open to all skill levels and abilities\, from beginners to seasoned musicians. Classes are recommended for ages 12 and up\, children must either participate with a guardian or have a participation waiver signed before class. \nClasses are offered in person and streamed live via Zoom to allow for all to participate. \nParade Session Mondays at 7 PM\, November 10 – December 1 & Parade on Sunday\, December 7: \nTeam Taiko classes are divided into 8-week sessions\, with a different pattern taught in each session. They can be purchased by session or by class. \n\nMonday\, November 10 – 7 PM\nMonday\, November 17 – 7 PM\nMonday\, November 24 – 7 PM\nMonday\, December 1 – 7 PM\nSunday\, December 7 – 12 PM\n\nAbout Class Fees & Sliding Scale: \nThe Team Taiko Parade session is designed to be $95 per person\, but we don’t want economic circumstances to be a barrier to attending so we offer tickets on a sliding scale. Pay the price that works for you. Your class experience will be the same regardless of which option you choose. \nTo Attend In Person: \n\nPlease bring water and wear comfortable clothes. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a laid-back evening of music and art at this new First Thursday event\, with your hosts\, local musicians Chris and Emily Huff. December features music duo LuCa and fINdings art show “Eyeballs-Earings-Ornaments” by Phoebe Barnum and Henry Krusoe. \nThe Southern California-based LuCa is the talented duo of Lupe Montiel and Carlos Rodriguez. For December’s Arts Saloon\, you’ll hear fun pop tunes infused with jazzy twists along with holiday favorites and covers of hits by Fleetwood Mac and CCR. Lupe also happens to be Grand Vision’s Music Education Program Coordinator! \nfINdings Art Center\, in collaboration with Grand Vision’s Annex Arts Saloon\, presents: “Eyeballs-Earings-Ornaments\,” featuring artists Phoebe Barnum and Henry Krusoe\, curated by Henry Krusoe. \nPhoebe Barnum is a practicing visual artist\, living and working in San Pedro\, with a studio at Angels Gate Cultural Center. Her practice includes ceramics\, oil stick drawings\, jewelry and installation. Phoebe earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in fine art at the University of Long Beach. \nHenry Krusoe is an Otis College graduate and has been an Angels Gate Cultural Center resident artist since 2019\, creating multimedia artwork spanning analog and digital formats. \nNo-host bar open. Outside food is welcome.
