SUMMARY:Team TaikoJapanese Drumming Lessons
DESCRIPTION:Team Taiko is Grand Vision Foundation’s signature community music-making program. \nWe believe in creating unique opportunities for people to meet their neighbors and engage in their community in a new way. Making music makes a community! Classes are open to all skill levels\, from beginners to seasoned musicians\, and fees are on a sliding scale. \nTaiko is a Japanese traditional drumming practice that\, over the last several decades\, has become a global phenomenon. Since 2014\, Grand Vision has partnered with leading taiko instructors to bring the art form to a variety of locations in San Pedro and Wilmington. \nSpring Session:\nMondays February-April 2021\nTaiko Artist ManMan Mui guides participants toward a repertoire of drumming techniques and patterns. Sessions include developing rhythmic sensibility\, body awareness\, breath and strength training as students make music together as a team. \nClasses are offered in-person and streamed live via Zoom to allow for all to participate safely. \nCOVID-19 SAFETY AT THE GRAND ANNEX\nWe follow all LA City Covid-19 safety protocols. Until further notice\, vaccination records OR negative tests (within 48 hours for PCR\, within 24 hours for antigen) AND face masks are required for ages 2 and up.

Kaye will be joined at the Annex by Boogie-woogie piano legend\, Carl Sonny Leyland\, Jon Atkinson and Tim McNalley. \nAny sentence\, any phrase\, any word in the lyrics she sings and find some emotional energy to be transformed into a growl\, a coo\, a shout\, a quiver. – Clinton Davis\, The San Diego Troubadour \nCovid-19 Safety at the Grand Annex\nFor everyone’s safety and health\, and in compliance with City of LA protocols\, face masks are required for all unvaccinated attendees ages 2+ during all events.
