DESCRIPTION:Team Taiko is joining the San Pedro Holiday Parade. Learn how to taiko in a parade. We will practice how to wear the drum and march while playing. \nTaiko is a Japanese drumming style that\, over the last several decades\, has become a global phenomenon. Since 2013\, Grand Vision has partnered with leading taiko instructors to bring the art form to the South Bay. \nTaiko Artist ManMan Mui guides participants toward a repertoire of drumming techniques and patterns. Sessions include developing rhythmic sensibility\, body awareness\, breath and strength training as students make music together as a team. \nIf you would like to drum in the parade\, please be sure to select your shirt size when you register. \nIf you would just like to attend the class to learn these taiko techniques\, please select the Class Only option. \nTeam Taiko is open to all skill levels and abilities\, from beginners to seasoned musicians. Classes are recommended for ages 12 and up\, children must either participate with a guardian or have a participation waiver signed before class. \nClasses are offered in person and streamed live via Zoom to allow for all to participate. \nParade Session Mondays at 7 PM\, November 10 – December 1 & Parade on Sunday\, December 7: \nTeam Taiko classes are divided into 8-week sessions\, with a different pattern taught in each session. Lupe also happens to be Grand Vision’s Music Education Program Coordinator! \nfINdings Art Center\, in collaboration with Grand Vision’s Annex Arts Saloon\, presents: “Eyeballs-Earings-Ornaments\,” featuring artists Phoebe Barnum and Henry Krusoe\, curated by Henry Krusoe. \nPhoebe Barnum is a practicing visual artist\, living and working in San Pedro\, with a studio at Angels Gate Cultural Center. Her practice includes ceramics\, oil stick drawings\, jewelry and installation. Phoebe earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in fine art at the University of Long Beach. \nHenry Krusoe is an Otis College graduate and has been an Angels Gate Cultural Center resident artist since 2019\, creating multimedia artwork spanning analog and digital formats. \nNo-host bar open. DESCRIPTION:Hear Sir Patrick Stewart’s Adaptation of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol read by local luminaries such as Councilman Tim McOsker of the One Five and Harbor Commissioner Lee Williams with actors from Little Fish/Shakespeare by the Sea\, Encore South Bay Theatre Group and House of Bards Theatre Company. \nDirected by Renee O’Connor-Sura (House of Bards Theatre Company) and Jacob Nye (Encore South Bay Theatre Group). \nHelp the Toberman Neighborhood Center stock their food pantry – please bring canned and shelf-stable foods to receive a raffle ticket for our Silent Auction. \nDoors open at 1:00 PM for a special dessert reception\, donated by John and Lucrecia Jacobson for all ticket holders. \nThis idea was the brainchild of married social entrepreneurs\, Fred Allen and Linda Grimes\, who met in New York City when Fred was the Broadway Lighting Designer for this very successful one-man play. “We wanted to present this work\, as it has informed our relationship for the past 29 years and its messages are very relevant to today’s world situation”\, notes San Pedro Waterfront Arts District Executive Director\, Linda Grimes. All other supplies will be provided. \nIf you have your own bachi or drum that you would like to perform maintenance on\, please bring it with you. \nWe believe in creating unique opportunities for people to meet their neighbors and engage in their community in a new way. Come play with us! \nTaiko is a Japanese traditional drumming practice that\, over the last several decades\, has become a global phenomenon. Since 2013\, Grand Vision has partnered with leading taiko instructors to bring the art form to the South Bay. \nTaiko Artist Man Man Mui guides participants toward a repertoire of drumming techniques and patterns. Sessions include developing rhythmic sensibility\, body awareness\, breath and strength training as students make music together as a team. \nTeam Taiko is open to all skill levels and abilities\, from beginners to seasoned musicians\, and fees are on a sliding scale. Featuring musicians from the San Pedro Musicians Directory and visual art presented by fINdings Art Center. \nFebruary featured Musicians: Chris and Emily Huff can be found around town harmonizing as a father-daughter duo or performing solo. Not only are they the Art Saloon Hosts\, they are the featured musicians for February’s Art Saloon! They are Known for their Texas-tinged Americana covers and originals\, you may have heard them around San Pedro – at the Lighthouse Cafe\, the old Sacred Grounds and at local festivals like Arts Open. \nFebruary featured Art Show: “Heavy&Real – Steel\, Clay and Timely Concerns” The Works of Joyce Kuhl and Larry Lubow\, curated by Henry Krusoe. \nLarry Lubow has dedicated himself to investigating the intersections between art\, design\, nature\, and architecture. A sculptor and collector\, he is an alum of Alfred University where he started creating art with clay and metal\, going on to showcase his creations in galleries and design showrooms worldwide. Most recently\, at Yard 227 and House 1002\, Larry merges design\, materials\, and vintage treasures to create new works. He is also a resident artist at Altasea\, a local non-profit dedicated to ocean research and climate-change mitigation. \nJoyce Kohl recently relocated her home and studio to San Pedro\, after losing both in the Eaton fire in Altadena. As a temporary resident of Angels Gate Cultural Center\, she is working on a steel and glass sculpture to be installed at the Claremont Metro Station. Joyce has previously completed other public art projects\, including a Fulbright Project in Zimbabwe\, where she collaborated with workers in a Ceramics factory to build a public sculpture related to the AIDS pandemic. Joyce received her Master’s Degree from Cal State Fullerton (where she first met Larry Lubow). She retired from teaching Ceramics at Cal State University\, Bakersfield\, shortly before the Eaton fire. \nHenry Krusoe is an Otis College graduate and has been an Angels Gate Cultural Center resident artist since 2019\, creating multimedia artwork spanning analog and digital formats. \nArt Saloon is presented in partnership with fINdings Art Center and Arts United. \nNo-host bar open. Outside food is welcome.

DESCRIPTION:Play the Japanese Drum with Team Taiko!\nTeam Taiko classes are broken into 8-week sessions\, with a different pattern taught during each session. Team Taiko can be purchased by session or by class. \nThis Team Taiko session will end with a performance opportunity as the opening act during VISIBLE – Mujo Dream Flight in Concert ft. Aki Oshiro\, on Saturday\, April 4 at 4 PM. \nTeam Taiko is open to all skill levels and abilities\, from beginners to seasoned musicians. Classes are recommended for ages 12 and up\, children must either participate with a guardian or have a participation waiver signed before class. \nClasses are offered in person and streamed live via Zoom to allow for all to participate. \nWinter Session Mondays at 6:30 PM February 9 – March 30: \nTeam Taiko classes are broken into 8-week sessions\, with a different pattern taught during each session.
