Joined by an array of Blues artists including Ray Bailey and Mo Beeks. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				“We Blues performers most often do ‘our thing’ for audiences who are in the house to party and socialize\, leaving little room for heartfelt stories from the stage. This evening we leave some room for people who are interested in the music to know more about the people who produce it. Each artist has had a unique path towards the music they love to play and each will take a couple of minutes to share their story before playing that music\, be it song\, instrumental\, or both.” – Bernie Pearl \nBorn in East LA\, Bernie Pearl became involved in the early days of the Folk Music revival through the music of Pete Seeger\, the Weavers\, Woody Guthrie\, and Leadbelly. In 1958 Bernie’s brother Ed opened his music-coffee house\, the Ash Grove. There Bernie performed with Lightnin’ Hopkins\, Fred McDowell\, Big Mama Thornton\, and Freddie King. In 1968 Bernie began hosting “Nothin’ but the Blues” LA’s first all-blues radio show. He is also the founder the Long Beach Blues Festival. \nBernie Pearl will be joined by: \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				LA native\, Ray Bailey was taught by the groundbreaking reed player John Carter. Under his tutelage\, Bailey learned Charles Mingus\, Don Cherry\, Stravinsky\, and Mozart. He was inspired by the (then) youngster Jimi Hendrix\, Larry Davis\, and Chaka Khan. He regularly performed at the famous LA blues club Babe’s & Ricky’s Inn. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Roy Jones Sr. is best known for his role as Marty in the Tony award-winning Broadway hit\, “Dreamgirls.” He spent over four years touring the world\, performing eight shows a week. After taking a break to be a family man\, Roy has returned to singing the Blues and plays in several roots and R&B bands. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Grammy-nominated Mo Beeks is one of LA’s favorite pianists\, singers\, songwriters and musical directors. He plays a variety of styles and is a carrier of the blues tradition. He has performed with Leroy Hudson\, Chaka Khan\, Tyrone Davis\, Otis Clay\, Mahalia Jackson and more. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Elizabeth Hangan is an LA-based blues singer\, songwriter\, bass player and music educator. She fronts The Elizabeth Hangan Band\, performs as one of Marguaret Love’s Lovettes and toured with Bobby Warren\, Mickey Champion\, and Deacon Jones. She performed in the Women in Blues 2021 showcase and was presented with a Living Legend Award in 2018. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				New Orleans-born drummer and vocalist Albert Trepagnier\, Jr.\, AKA “the Beat-Man\,” has played with Bernie Pearl for over 40 years. He has also played for Eric Clapton\, BB King\, John Mayall and Stevie Ray Vaughn. He is a recipient of the Living Legend Blues Award. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Kee-Eso Pitchford is a recognized performing artist and master of several instruments in addition to his formidable guitar skills\, outstanding voice and undeniable stage presence. Kee-Eso is equally comfortable and engaging with both blues and gospel material. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Job Striles is a first-rate LA blues guitarist whose “rough and rowdy” playing earned him praise from Blues Access\, Blues Revue\, Southland Blues and Living Blues. He has worked with boogie-woogie pianist Rob Rio\, and opened for the J. Giels Band\, R.L. Burnside\, Little Charlie and the Nightcats\, Robert Lockwood Jr. and many others. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Latin Grammy-nominated George Dez is a blues vocalist and guitarist who has shared the stage with Poncho Sanchez\, Mickey Champion\, Finis Tasby\, Brenton Wood\, John Pisano\, Lonnie Jordan\, and many others. His record Crosstown Blues is a tribute to his mentor Laura Gross of Babe n Ricky’s Inn.

In addition to her upbeat performances\, her music has been featured in TV\, films\, and radio worldwide\, including The Fosters\, This American Life\, and Last Tango in Halifax\, as well as campaigns for Facebook and Viacom-CBS. She also appeared in Fox’s Glee and Ken Burns’ PBS Country Music documentary campaign. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Paula Fong is an Americana singer-songwriter from Los Angeles with a sound that can vary from lilting trad folk\, to upbeat country\, to soulful grit. She currently sings back up vocals and tours with Abby Posner\, is musical director for an Americana/folk music church service in the South Bay\, and released her first solo EP\, Chestnut Mare\, in the fall of 2024. Americana Highways Magazine says her music is “deeply rooted in a folky tradition . . . . with gentle brush strokes of Country zeal and Bluegrass sweeps.”  \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Jessica Childress has opened for Earth\, Wind and Fire\, The Family Stone\, and Patti LaBelle\, among others. Praised by leading Americana music magazine No Depression as “the perfectly combined voices…the stuff legends are made of\,” their harmonies and songwriting recently earned them an invitation to play main stage set at the Love Street Festival in Laurel Canyon – along with members of legendary ’60s bands\, The Doors and The Mamas and The Papas.

His songwriting credits include writing Pat Benatar’s Grammy-nominated classic “We Belong” and songs for Dionne Warwick\, The Bangles\, Dave Edmunds and more as well as over 17 albums. His music is included in video game soundtracks like Fallout 4 and Red Dead Redemption II and you can also hear him singing and voice acting in films like Oscar-winners Coco\, Happy Feet and Encanto. In early 2019\, after 20+ years with Lowen & Navarro\, he released his first studio-recorded solo album\, “Shed My Skin\,” to rave reviews. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Wendy Waldman is a critically acclaimed recording artist and multi-platinum songwriter whose career spans a range of genres from pop to country to jazz. She has co-written numerous iconic songs\, including Vanessa Williams’ chart-topping hits “Save the Best for Last”\, Garth Brooks’ classic “Fishin’ in the Dark\,” and Aaron Neville’s soulful “I Owe You One.” Wendy also collaborated with Linda Ronstadt on the beloved children’s song “I Want a Horse.” \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Jesse Lynn Madera is making waves in the Americana/Folk music scene. He is actively touring with several bands includeing Boston’s Session Americana and has formerly toured with Anais Mitchell’s Hadestown. Moss also plays with his twin brother as the Americana duo\, Brother Brothers who have earned acclaim from American Songwriter and Rolling Stone Country for their vocal harmonies and deep dive into mountain folk music.

DESCRIPTION:Learn about Taiko and how to care for Taiko drums and bachi (drumsticks) and make your own practice drum in this FREE intro class. \nIf you will be participating virtually you will need a 5-gallon (or larger) bucket\, scotch tape\, and textured duct tape to make your practice drum. \nWe believe in creating unique opportunities for people to meet their neighbors and engage in their community in a new way. Come play with us! \nTaiko is a Japanese traditional drumming practice that\, over the last several decades\, has become a global phenomenon. Since 2013\, Grand Vision has partnered with leading taiko instructors to bring the art form to the South Bay. \nTaiko Artist Man Man Mui guides participants toward a repertoire of drumming techniques and patterns. Sessions include developing rhythmic sensibility\, body awareness\, breath and strength training as students make music together as a team. \nTeam Taiko is open to all skill levels and abilities\, from beginners to seasoned musicians\, and fees are on a sliding scale. Recommended for ages 12 and up\, children must participate with a guardian or have a signed participation waiver. \nClasses are offered in person and streamed live via Zoom to allow for all to participate. \nTo attend in person: Please bring water and wear comfortable clothes. The Department of Cultural Affairs\, which operates the Theatre\, is overseeing the project\, with the City’s Bureau of Engineering managing construction. Over the past year\, the City prepared the building for renovation\, carefully selected a contractor and worked with SPF:architects to secure permits. After a thorough vetting process\, 2H Construction\, the lowest bidder\, was chosen and is ready to begin work. \nCome by and take a last look at the Theatre’s lobbies and enjoy coffee and refreshments sponsored by Grand Vision Foundation from 10-11 AM.
