SUMMARY:DCR Pollock & Izzi Ray
DESCRIPTION:Alt-rock singer-songwriter DCR Pollock\, an LA local\, has made a name for himself by creating music with a biographical approach that resonates with the masses. His latest release ‘Bark!\,’ is about his struggles with loneliness and vulnerability. “Curled up on a van floor\, cut off at the corner store. You know I’ve never felt so damn alive\, or alone before\,” he sings. \nOther People Records picked up his label\, creating his debut album earlier this year\, Call the Dogs Off. Pollock draws on his experience as a laborer to build his music\, “How much time do you think I’ve lost? Just staring at a warehouse clock. Move that barrel\, lift that box. Hell\, man\, it’s a job. Don’t you worry\, come next year. We’ll be on our feet\, I swеar. Are these dreams or they prayers?” Pollock will be performing songs from his latest album at the Grand Annex with his full band. \nIndie pop singer Izzi Ray performs emotional melodies from her latest album Self Untitled. Born in Southern California and raised in Northwest Montana\, her artistry reflects the contrast in her upbringing. From a sentiment of not knowing where to belong\, she creates music aspiring to make beautiful things as reminders to continue to breathe\, grow\, love\, and savor each day. Drawn to emotional melodies and expressive production\, her writing is a breath of fresh air\, rich with therapeutic reflections. Izzi has released four full-length albums\, which she calls an “autobiographical snapshot of the season of life in which it was made.”

SUMMARY:☆ Honey Whiskey Trio 10 Year Anniversary Concert
DESCRIPTION:Advance online & phone sales are closed. Tickets available at the door. $28 cash\, $33 credit. \nConcert is at 8:30pm. Doors open at 6:45pm for the pre-concert “Body Rhythms” Workshop which will start a little after 7:00pm.  \nThe beloved three “sisters in song” return to the Annex stage to bring you rowdy tunes and at least one murder ballad with masterful harmonies\, stomp and traditional instrumentation. Los Angeles based Honey Whiskey Trio tells stories through song and stomp\, highlighting the musical traditions of American Folk Music. \nAlumni of the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University\, Long Beach\, Courtney Politano\, Ann Louise Thaiss and Christina Wilson began singing together in each other’s living rooms as an emotional and musical release. In 2013\, after seeing the impact of their music on the contemporary A cappella community\, these “sisters in song” solidified their style as American Folk and picked up instruments to further enhance their vocally driven sound. \nToday their passion for music education\, community outreach\, and singing unapologetically continues to drive them. They create\, arrange\, and explore music from the front porches\, music halls\, and hymn books of early America\, sharing it with students\, adults\, and life-long music lovers across the United States. \n“Their sound is intoxicating… To simply classify this trio as folk\, bluegrass\, or jazz would be to do them a great disservice. What I hear is great music and what I see is great joy.” – Bluegrass Spin \nPre-concert Body Rhythms Workshop at 7PM \n☆ Part of the Roots & Rambles concert series. \nConcert 8:30PM \nTickets include the workshop. \n☆ Roots & Rambles is a three-concert series featuring musicians dedicated to the preservation\, artistry and evolution of folk and traditional music in the United States. Lizzie is a winner of the American Songwriter Magazine Lyrics Contest. She has showcased at Newport Folk Fest\, Americanafest\, South by Southwest\, and the Mile of Music Festival. \n“We are thrilled to bring musicians-on-the-rise like Lizzie No to the Annex\,” said Taran Schindler\, Deputy & Artistic Director of the Grand Vision Foundation. “When I first heard her pertinent lyrics delivered with such sincerity\, they reminded me of activist folk musicians like Pete Seeger or Joan Baez. I also really like that she has taken the harp\, a traditionally classical instrument\, and turned it into the instrument of a singer-songwriter.” \nNo established herself as one of the most exciting new voices in indie folk music with her 2017 debut album “Hard Won.” She followed up the album with the release of “Sundown\,” a benefit track for Black Lives Matter and her second album “Vanity\,”(2019) was a hit at college radio stations across the country. Lizzie has played with Iron & Wine\, Aida Victoria\, and as a part of the Black Opry Revue; a touring revue formed to raise awareness for Black musicians in Americana music. \n🍷Pre-Concert Wine Tastings: 7-7:45PM requires an additional ticket. Wine tastings are $16 or free for members at the Friend\, Committee of $200\, VIP Circle\, Premium\, and Angel levels. Sommelier Jean Philippe Molinari will be presenting a selection of fine wines. JP’s career in the wine business began in France. Here in the U.S.\, he honed his skills and love of wine to become a sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers. SUMMARY:Long Beach Opera The Romance of the Rose
DESCRIPTION:Subscriptions on sale now. Single Tickets on sale in 2023. \nTHE ROMANCE OF THE ROSE\nAn opera in two acts and two epilogues \nFEBRUARY 18\, 19\, & 25 \nWarner Grand Theatre\, San Pedro \nLibretto and Music by Kate Soper \nConducted by Christopher Rountree \nDirected by James Darrah \nThe singular compositional voice of Kate Soper returns to LBO after Voices from the Killing Jar (2021) in a thrilling new world premiere production that blends an oft-neglected sense of comedy in opera with a genre-smashing adventure story of fantastical proportions. Soper herself sets the piece’s namesake 13th-century poem as a boundary-breaking\, evening-length work that defies all categorization. In a thrilling opus that examines one Dreamer’s quest for a literal rose\, The God of Love\, Shame\, Lady Reason\, and their cadre of followers lull the audience into a dreamlike world that deftly highlights the profound juxtaposition of beauty and absurdity in our own human folly. \nPulitzer Prize finalist Soper fills her newest opera with music that defies tradition and will envelop the theater in new ways with a blend of modernistic shrieks and wails\, madrigalistic finery\, auto-tuned didacticism\, and lush Romanticism. The world premiere production\, directed by James Darrah\, will inhabit multiple spaces within the historic art deco Warner Grand Theater. Darrah\, who is known for creating successful world premiere productions for composers including Ellen Reid\, Missy Mazzoli and John Corigliano\, will be joined by conductor and LBO Music Director Christopher Rountree in guiding the orchestra outside of the normal pit and onstage into the show itself. THE ROMANCE OF THE ROSE freely beguiles\, charms\, and terrifies with no moral allegiances or moral compass and promises to lead audiences thrillingly astray. \n  \nAs of December 16\, 2022: Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination OR a negative test result within 72 hours of your show is required.
