This film spotlights the ecological and cultural issues intertwined with white sage\, centering the voices of Native advocates who have long protected and cherished this plant. \n“Saging” has become common in movies\, TV shows\, social media\, and cleansing rituals –people burning sage bundles in the hope of purifying space and clearing bad energy. Instead of healing\, the appropriated use of saging in popular culture is having a harmful effect. Indigenous communities have tended a relationship with white sage for thousands of generations. White sage (Salvia apiana) only occurs in southern California and northern Baja California\, Mexico. Classes are open to all skill levels\, from beginners to seasoned musicians\, and fees are on a sliding scale. \nTaiko is a Japanese traditional drumming practice that\, over the last several decades\, has become a global phenomenon. Since 2014\, Grand Vision has partnered with leading taiko instructors to bring the art form to a variety of locations in San Pedro and Wilmington. \nSpring Session:\nMondays February-April 2021\nTaiko Artist ManMan Mui guides participants toward a repertoire of drumming techniques and patterns.
