Concert at 8pm. \nHear four singer-songwriters led by Abby Posner with Jessica Childress\, Great Willow and Paula Fong. \nGrand Vision and FAR-West collaborated to put this Spotlight Series line-up together through a generous grant from the Live Music Society. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				FAR-West is the West Coast affiliate of Folk Alliance International. FAR-West offers creative and business resources for musicians\, presenters and others in the folk-Americana communities of the western US and Canada. For the last several years\, they have been placing the FAR-West Presents concert series at venues throughout LA. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Abby Posner is the 2023 USA Songwriting Competition winner and multi-instrumentalist known for her passionate and versatile musicianship across folk\, roots\, and pop genres. In addition to her upbeat performances\, her music has been featured in TV\, films\, and radio worldwide\, including The Fosters\, This American Life\, and Last Tango in Halifax\, as well as campaigns for Facebook and Viacom-CBS. She also appeared in Fox’s Glee and Ken Burns’ PBS Country Music documentary campaign. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Paula Fong is an Americana singer-songwriter from Los Angeles with a sound that can vary from lilting trad folk\, to upbeat country\, to soulful grit. She currently sings back up vocals and tours with Abby Posner\, is musical director for an Americana/folk music church service in the South Bay\, and released her first solo EP\, Chestnut Mare\, in the fall of 2024. Americana Highways Magazine says her music is “deeply rooted in a folky tradition . . . . with gentle brush strokes of Country zeal and Bluegrass sweeps.”  \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Jessica Childress has opened for Earth\, Wind and Fire\, The Family Stone\, and Patti LaBelle\, among others. Her voice can be heard in major motion pictures like Coming 2 America and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. Her original music has been featured on Hulu’s Good Trouble as well as several Hallmark movies and elsewhere. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Great Willow is the LA-based Americana duo James Combs and Erin Hawkins. Praised by leading Americana music magazine No Depression as “the perfectly combined voices…the stuff legends are made of\,” their harmonies and songwriting recently earned them an invitation to play main stage set at the Love Street Festival in Laurel Canyon – along with members of legendary ’60s bands\, The Doors and The Mamas and The Papas.

Joined by an array of Blues artists including Ray Bailey and Mo Beeks. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				“We Blues performers most often do ‘our thing’ for audiences who are in the house to party and socialize\, leaving little room for heartfelt stories from the stage. This evening we leave some room for people who are interested in the music to know more about the people who produce it. Each artist has had a unique path towards the music they love to play and each will take a couple of minutes to share their story before playing that music\, be it song\, instrumental\, or both.” – Bernie Pearl \nBorn in East LA\, Bernie Pearl became involved in the early days of the Folk Music revival through the music of Pete Seeger\, the Weavers\, Woody Guthrie\, and Leadbelly. In 1958 Bernie’s brother Ed opened his music-coffee house\, the Ash Grove. There Bernie performed with Lightnin’ Hopkins\, Fred McDowell\, Big Mama Thornton\, and Freddie King. In 1968 Bernie began hosting “Nothin’ but the Blues” LA’s first all-blues radio show. He is also the founder the Long Beach Blues Festival. \nBernie Pearl will be joined by: \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				LA native\, Ray Bailey was taught by the groundbreaking reed player John Carter. Under his tutelage\, Bailey learned Charles Mingus\, Don Cherry\, Stravinsky\, and Mozart. He was inspired by the (then) youngster Jimi Hendrix\, Larry Davis\, and Chaka Khan. He regularly performed at the famous LA blues club Babe’s & Ricky’s Inn. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Roy Jones Sr. is best known for his role as Marty in the Tony award-winning Broadway hit\, “Dreamgirls.” He spent over four years touring the world\, performing eight shows a week. After taking a break to be a family man\, Roy has returned to singing the Blues and plays in several roots and R&B bands. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Grammy-nominated Mo Beeks is one of LA’s favorite pianists\, singers\, songwriters and musical directors. He plays a variety of styles and is a carrier of the blues tradition. He has performed with Leroy Hudson\, Chaka Khan\, Tyrone Davis\, Otis Clay\, Mahalia Jackson and more. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Elizabeth Hangan is an LA-based blues singer\, songwriter\, bass player and music educator. She fronts The Elizabeth Hangan Band\, performs as one of Marguaret Love’s Lovettes and toured with Bobby Warren\, Mickey Champion\, and Deacon Jones. She performed in the Women in Blues 2021 showcase and was presented with a Living Legend Award in 2018. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				New Orleans-born drummer and vocalist Albert Trepagnier\, Jr.\, AKA “the Beat-Man\,” has played with Bernie Pearl for over 40 years. He has also played for Eric Clapton\, BB King\, John Mayall and Stevie Ray Vaughn. He is a recipient of the Living Legend Blues Award. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Kee-Eso Pitchford is a recognized performing artist and master of several instruments in addition to his formidable guitar skills\, outstanding voice and undeniable stage presence.
