SUMMARY:FREE Intro to Team Taiko & Japanese Drum Care
DESCRIPTION:Learn about Taiko and how to care for Taiko drums and bachi (drumsticks) and how to make a practice drum in this introductory session. \nIf you wish to make your own practice drum\, please bring a bucket (5-gallon or larger). All other supplies will be provided. \nIf you have your own bachi or drum that you would like to perform maintenance on\, please bring it with you. \nWe believe in creating unique opportunities for people to meet their neighbors and engage in their community in a new way. Come play with us! \nTaiko is a Japanese traditional drumming practice that\, over the last several decades\, has become a global phenomenon. Since 2013\, Grand Vision has partnered with leading taiko instructors to bring the art form to the South Bay. \nTaiko Artist Man Man Mui guides participants toward a repertoire of drumming techniques and patterns. Sessions include developing rhythmic sensibility\, body awareness\, breath and strength training as students make music together as a team. \nTeam Taiko is open to all skill levels and abilities\, from beginners to seasoned musicians\, and fees are on a sliding scale. Recommended for ages 12 and up\, children must participate with a guardian or have a signed participation waiver. \n\n\n \n\n\nWinter Session Mondays at 6:30 PM February 9 – March 30: \nTeam Taiko classes are broken into 8-week sessions\, with a different pattern taught during each session.
