SUMMARY:Pennyroyal PlayersThe Suffragette Musical
DESCRIPTION:“THE SUFFRAGETTE MUSICAL: FROM BATTLES TO BALLOTS”\nA CENTURY OF STRUGGLE FOR THE RIGHT TO VOTE \nCo-produced by Grand Vision Foundation and the Pennyroyal Players. \nThe Pennyroyal Players pay musical tribute to the diverse “radical women” who dared to fight for their rights. The story begins in 1591 in England and ends in Tennessee in 1920 with the final ratification of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution\, which opened the doors for women to cast their vote in the United States. The show is 1 hour with no intermission and is suitable for all ages. \nPennyroyal Players is a group of philanthropic professional and semi-professional musicians who have been performing together for over 17 years. They sing\, dance\, play guitar\, autoharp\, flute\, banjo\, mandolin\, banjolele\, harmonica\, and percussion. They have won awards and honors for their music and service work. They have toured Southern California\, presenting over 2\,000 performances – singing in libraries\, museums\, school auditoriums\, churches\, restaurants and even living rooms. \nA portion of the proceeds from this performance will be donated to charity. To date\, Pennyroyal players have raised and donated over $167\,000. Learn more at: pennyroyalplayers.org.

SUMMARY:Willie Watson
DESCRIPTION:This concert is Sold Out! Please see the Grand Annex calendar for other shows you might enjoy. \n“There’s so much beauty in this old music\, and it affects me on a deep level. It moves me and inspires me. I heard Leadbelly singing with the Golden Gate Quartet and it sounded fantastic\, and I thought\, ‘I want to do that.” ~ Willie Watson \nFor nearly two decades\, Willie Watson (formerly of Grammy-winning roots-rock band Old Crow Medicine Show) has made modern folk music rooted in older traditions. Watson is a folksinger in the classic sense: a singer\, storyteller\, and traveler\, with a catalog of songs that bridge the gap between the past and present. He acts as a modern interpreter of older songs\, passing along his own version of the music that came long before him. \nWith a quick vibrato and rich range\, he breathes new life into classic songs like Samson and Delilah. He’s a balladeer when he sings Gallows Pole\, a bluesman when he performs When My Baby Left Me. Dry Bones finds him crooning and hollering\, while Take This Hammer\, has Watson singing to the heavens. \nOpener: Honey Whiskey Trio \nThe beloved three sisters in song return to the Annex stage this Saturday as the opening act! Los Angeles-based Honey Whiskey Trio tells stories through song and stomp\, highlighting the musical traditions of American Folk Music. \nCovid-19 Safety at the Grand Annex\nAs of 3/25/22 Masks are strongly recommended for all\, we ask that those who have not been vaccinated wear masks.
